While I did find the program helpful, it is simply not worth the money. If it were a $100 program, I would encourage you to purchase it but for $500, choose another option. I personally like Rocket Spanish. It was relatively inexpensive and provided good bang for the buck. I felt I learned as much rom Rocket Spanish as I did from Rosetta Stone. Some others have mentioned Transparent Language. I have not tried this but it might be another, less expensive, option to explore.

Very good software. Its made in such a good self explanatory way that you don’t need a teacher. I took a couple of spanish courses before and I feel that this software is more helpful and I learn in my own pace.

A few years ago I bought Rosetta Stone v.2 and found it very difficult to work with. The activities had no real order to them, there was very little guidance for users, the voice recognition function was horrible… I had two years of Spanish in high, but as I’m working in health care I meet with many Spanish-speaking patients every day and speaking spanish just makes my life a lot easier. I saw that Rosetta Stone had completely reworked their system and gave it a try. I’m TREMENDOUSLY impressed with the changes! The new packaging includes an USB. On the down side, I haven’t been exactly thrilled with the “audio companion” so far; it adds nothing to what is presented in the lessons.
All in all, though, I think it’s a very worthwhile investment, and for less than most classroom programs cost.
